Ingredients
– 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
– 6 slices of bacon, chopped
– 1 large onion, chopped
– 2 cloves garlic, minced
– 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
– 1 teaspoon sugar
– Salt and pepper to taste
– 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional)
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
Preparation
- Cook Bacon:
In a large skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside, leaving the bacon fat in the skillet. - Sauté Onions and Garlic:
Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the bacon fat and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute. - Cook Cabbage:
Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. If the skillet is too full, you can add it in batches. Sauté the cabbage until it starts to wilt, about 10 minutes. - Add Vinegar and Seasonings:
Stir in the apple cider vinegar and sugar. Season with salt and pepper to taste. If the cabbage mixture seems too dry, you can add a little chicken broth. - Combine and Serve:
Add the cooked bacon back into the skillet and stir to combine. Continue cooking until the cabbage is tender and cooked through, about 5 more minutes. Adjust seasoning as needed. - Serve:
Serve the sautéed cabbage with bacon hot. Enjoy as a side dish or a main course.
This dish is a comforting and flavorful addition to any meal. The combination of tender cabbage and crispy bacon is sure to be a hit.
