Ingredients
1/2 cup rice vinegar
1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup pineapple juice (optional for extra flavor)
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a bit of heat)
Instructions
Combine Wet Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine the rice vinegar, ketchup, brown sugar, pineapple juice (if using), and soy sauce. Stir well to combine.
Mix Cornstarch and Water: In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with the water until it forms a smooth slurry. This will help thicken the sauce.
Add Seasonings: Add the garlic powder, onion powder, ground ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the saucepan. Stir to combine.
Cook the Sauce: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly.
Thicken the Sauce: Once the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and gradually stir in the cornstarch slurry. Continue to cook and stir until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
Adjust Consistency: If the sauce is too thick, you can add a bit more water to reach your desired consistency. If it’s too thin, continue to cook until it thickens further.
Cool and Serve: Remove the sauce from the heat and let it cool slightly before serving. Use it as a dipping sauce, marinade, or stir-fry sauce.
